Is Travel Insurance Mandatory ?

Travel Insurance

I am sure many of you will be asking this question before traveling to overseas and also wouldn’t like to answer this question as “YES”. A friend of mine has gone to a week long holiday to Dubai and she got sick during the trip after eating something in restaurant. She got to see the doctor and got herself some medicines and painkiller.

I had a look at her travel checklist before she left. It included passport, clothes, cameras, hotel bookings, flight tickets, visa and foreign currency except ?

Yes, she forgot to take – Travel Insurance.

My friend is not alone who is making this mistake but I have seen many of the travellers whether in India or abroad. They buy expensive travel packages, expensive air tickets but do not opt for travel insurance. Before answering my question you will ask me is that mandatory to take travel insurance if you are heading to other countries also except Schengen States as travel insurance for schengen is mandatory.

Yes, you know it very well that when you want to visit Schengen state. You require travel insurance for schengen state which is mandatory to purchase. Schengen state insists a traveller who is traveling to Europe or visiting Schengen countries to purchase a insurance and travel freely throughout the Schengen countries.

Yes, it costs money because it covers your risks during traveling and it help you to recover your hard earned money if you happens to fall in a situation which is not favorable to your health and for your travel itinerary. It will cost you mere few hundred rupees depending on the coverage amount and number of days you will choose for travel insurance.

So you will purchase your travel insurance in rupees. And it will save your dollars or the local currency on your overseas trip. Should you fall sick, the hospital bills and treatment will be paid by the insurance company. If your hotel bounces your booking, the insurance company will pay your hotel bills. If your luggage get loss the insurance company will pay your bills. Additionally if your trip got cancelled due to any unforeseen circumstances. (Read the insurance documents carefully for the list of unforeseen circumstances). The cost of your travel will paid the insurance company. (Please read the terms and conditions of the insurance company before opting for their plan).

For any problem you face, you can call the contact number given on the travel insurance policy. Also, note if you are taking the travel insurance policy. Then it will cover only you not the person who is traveling along with you. Hence if you a traveling with family or any other person.

You many be in excellent health and not feel to need for a travel insurance cover but what if you met with an accident & what if your flight gets delayed & what if your luggage get lost. Interestingly, if you look at the insurance packages what is offer today is not just health but a comprehensive package. That ensures compensation and peace of mind when traveling overseas.
